The new uniform

The executives and junior staff representatives from the regions met at the Power Queens Headquarters to choose the uniform for the junior staff.
The bidders were two with two different kinds of fabrics. One was from China and the other from South Africa.
The China fabric and style is the cream coloured inner wear with blue skirt and trouser suit.
The South Africa's is the white inner and the skirt and trouser suit in see in the picture.
After voting, the house chose the fabric and style from China.
The sad aspect is that, I really loved the South Africa's wear but I had only three other regions to support me. So folks that 's it!!!!!!!!!!!!! At loooooooooooooooog last

Revenue Mobilization and Customer Education

As part of the Queens Week, we embarked on customer education. The queens in the other districts also participated in their districts. We educated them on how to conserve energy, pay their bills on time for us to deliver good services to tnhem, and how to use the prepaid meters. This was after the Queens had gone for mass dicsonnection the previous day

The Queens decided to go Kings during the celebration of thier special week.

National Secretary's message

Mrs Helena Appiah-Kubi is the National Secretary of the Power Queens Club. She shared with us a special message from the Managing Director.

Revenue Collection

According to her, the first concern is the revenue collection. She said due to the power outages, the revenue collection has reduced. People now use less of our product which is power and therefore pay less. Mass disconnection will be the antidote for our defaulters to pay us. It is very difficult to disconnect customers due to the current power outages but we still have to do it.
Due to the decrease in revenue, money for operations is not enough. She therefore advised Queens who are in the habit of conniving with people to inflate bills to desist from that. We should all help ECG to stand on its feet in times of crisis.
As part of our National programme, the club has embarked on revenue collection competition. Each region has set a day in each quarter of the year for a special revenue collection and the outcome is reported to the National Secretariat. The revenue collected will be ranked, taking the regional targets into consideration and the region that will emerge first on the list will be awarded at the next congress.
According to her, we have to be very active to help ECG to achieve its objectives and strategic goals.

Districts Offices

She said the vision of the MD is to empower the districts. The districts currently are regarded as the engine of growth. The regional offices do not have direct customers like the districts and therefore do not generate more revenue. The well educated staff would be sent to the districts to prove themselves and help the Company to improve upon its current position. She said we must prepare our minds that most of the regional staff will be transfered to the districts very very soon.

Attitude
she also urged us to change our attitude towards work and customers. How do we relate to our customers? If we have to rate ourselves, is it satisfactory? We must try very hard to satisfy both internal and external customers if we want to help ECG redeem its good corporate image.

District Managers (DMs)

ECG is changing and the vacancy for DMs are not going to be for technical men or women only. District B and C are available for people who are competent and have the qualifications to work. She wants as many ladies to apply. She advised us to develop ourselves for future challenges.
The conditions are that you should know the operations of ECG. She advised us to go to our collegues in the other units to educate ourselves on their job. We should ask questions.

She concluded by saying that, we should not let the self development be wasted but it should reflect on the job because ECG is changing and we have to change too.

National Executive's Special Visitation to Kdua

How would you feel if you have a mother and relatives who never visited you at the boarding house? It's sad eh? What about a headmaster of your school who sends you messages through the housemaster that you should not eat before 9 pm but only sits in the office and set rules? That's very bad too eh? Luckily for us, National Executive Members are not like the headmaster and the relatives above; they visited us today, June 6,2007 and we were very happy and empowered to see them. Their appearance alone shows how we have been able to demystify all those qualities attributed to men. They appeared very bold and beautiful and you will need no one to whisper to you that they are women who are determined to be agents of change for a new ECG. They were:

New Faces

Some of faces are new to the members. Faces like Queen Joyce, Queen Sarah, Queen Augusta, Queen Victoria, Queen Benedicta and Queen Patricia. Even though they appeared very young, we see them as role models to prove that age is just a figure.
Personalities like Queen Miranda and Queen Helena have very rich experience in matters concerning Power Queens Club. Though they were in the previous they still have fresh ideas to share with us

Queens grab more awards

ECG (Eastern) organised the Best Worker Ceremony at the Regional Office yesterday, 6th December, 2006. The award winners were seventeen (17) in number. There were 4 Queens out of the 17 award winners.
Previously, there were no queens at all. The first Queen to win an award was Mrs Rosina Amankwaah of the Tafo District; she won the district award for Tafo in 2004.
Great strides however, were yet to be made inthe coming years. Guess what???#??*>........? The Regional Best Worker for 2005 was a Queen! She was the best for both the district and region. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She really made us proud.
This year, even though we did not grab the ultimate prize, we increased in number.

This afternoon, the data section queens were lucky to be the first to be taken through the getting access to the queens website. They learnt how to post information and enter the 'blog'

My sisters, going for cervical cancer screening is not all that easy at all. Especially when you know within your heart that you are not a virgin; and your husband, not a Pope.

3rd Nov. 2006

On the above date, we decided to go for the cervical cancer screening(ccs). My heart was beating like a boiling 'mpotompoto' on fire. I was really scared because i had already gone through an EOU ( emptying of uterus) experience twice which wasn't all that funny.
Let me continue before i go off the line.
As the secretary of easternpower queens i had to put all fears away and join my fellow queens for the ccs. I even convinced some of them to have it cos it was painless (look at who is talking)
We all went to the hospital and gathered at the Family Planning Unit where the ccs was supposed to be done for us.

In the consulting room

We sat on a bench outside the consulting room whilst a nurse was in there taking our particulars before the 'thing' will be done. I wasn't really in a hurry for that 'interview' so i 'perched' somewhere waiting to be the last person to enter.
Alas! it was my turn. The nurse interviewed me very well and even asked about the food i hate! Now, it was time for my BP to be taken. You won't believe it if i tell u myself.
Ei! young lady, are you hypertensive? 150/100????. I replied NO! Then why this BP. I laughed within my head and said 'you dont know what is happening in dodowa forest'. She told me not to fear cos it is just a short and painless test.
I completed the 'interview' and left the room with a very 'big headache' of how i'm going to face the ccs.
The nurse came out and advised those in their menses to go and come back another time.
'Thank God'. I had no option than to join them even though i had had mine about a week ago. Hahahahahahahahaha. I was saved by that nurse. May God richly bless her with lots of children. Amen !

4th Nov.

We were fortunate to have Dr. Manye Mensah, a gynaecologist at the Regional Hospital to give us a talk or let me say, educate us on ccs. The attendance was very encouraging and the talk, interesting but scary!

After listening to the talk on ccs, and its effect if not diagnosed or detected earlier, i had no option than to follow up to Dr. Mensah's consulting room to do the screening for me at once! That's funny eh?

I realised how important it was to have ccs done and to know your status to prevent the 'Almighty Cancer' which has no cure.

Unfortunately, the Dr. couldn't do it for me. That's very disappointing dear; I therefore had to wait for the next batch of ladies who were really in their menses during the last ccs to have the test.

I joined them without any fears and my BP was also down. I willingly 'opened up' and had the test.

It wasn't really painful after all. This is not a narrow escape from the shyness and pain but from having a cervical cancer in the near future.

CERVICAL CANCER SCREENING 2

The cause of early rashes changes in the cervix is due to a small germ called Human Papilloma Virus or HPV. However, as already stated, not all HPV in women develop into cancers.
Usually, HPV does not cause any obvious symptoms. Sometimes it causes warts, but other times it causes changes that a woman cannot see, and as such changes the cervix can develop into a cancer in later life. It is in this sense that the management of ECG organised cervical cancer screening and education for its female staff. Today, the Power Queens Club Ladies are going to the Central Hospital for Cervical Screening.

You would not believe it if i tell you that some Queens came all the way from Donkorkrom, Mpreaso, New Abirem, Asesewa, Nkwatia, Akwatia and even beyond to be screened.
All the Ladies participated and this really shows that they are now abreast with time and had put all the shyness of removing their panties for a male doctor to examine their 'Private' part and even deeper away to have the test.
Hmmmmm? That is very interesting but encouraging.

CERVICAL CANCER SCREENING 1

Cervical cancer is a cancer that affects the cervix of women. It is said to be the second most common cancer that affects women throughout the world.
A total of 4,000 new cases are recorded in the world yearly and 80% of these new cases are said to be from developing countries such as Ghana.
One has cervical cancer when the cells of the cervix begin to grow haphazardly and out of control to the point where they form a large and extensive "sore"
According to health experts, one in every 10 Ghanaian women often has haphazard growth in in the cells but the good news is that not all these changes develop into cervical cancer.
Like all cancers, cervical cancer develops slowly over a period of years. In the early stage, these changes are small and are like rashes and are called"dysplasia".
Also, health experts say, normally, the rashes do not cause any symptoms and some heal on their own while others continue to grow. The ones that continue to grow can develop into large sosres over a period of years before developing inot cervical cancer.
Cervical cancer normally affects women between the ages of 40 and 60 although the early rash can appear when a woman is in her twenties.
