The National President's Special Message on the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of the Power Queens Club.

Mr. Chairman, distinguished guest and fellow Queens, twenty years ago, on the 24th of September, 1988 to be precise, the Power Queens Club, an association of female workers of the Electricity Company of Ghana was inaugurated. Since then a lot of water has passed under the bridge.

In a very modest and humble way we have chalked one success after the other. Admittedly, the challenges of the past years were enormous but not insurmountable. The fact that we are all at post today is a proof of God’s guidance and power and this should enable us confront the years ahead with hope and great expectation.

For the twenty years that the club has been in existence, it has been engaged in various programmes including Adult Education, sports, charity work, revenue mobilization and employee motivational drives.

Under adult education, we have organized programmes aimed at educating the public on the usefulness as well as the most economical and safest ways of utilizing electricity.
We have also organized seminars and training programmes for Queens at the training school and in the various regions.

In our contribution towards revenue collection, we inexhaustibly promoted “Campaign to enhance the image of ECG” which was launched by the then Managing Director, Mr. Kalitsi during the inauguration of the Western and Central regional branches of the club at Takoradi on the 26th of May 1989. This Campaign was aimed at motivating employees of ECG to aspire to greater heights. We must continue to deploy every conceivable and legitimate means to collect our revenues, including customer debts.

As mothers, we have always contributed our widow’s mite to the less fortunate in society by making donations. Again almost all the branches have adopted homes or wards in hospitals where we visit every year with gift items and cash donations.
Another feather in our cap was our excellence in sporting activities.

In conclusion, I highly commend the efforts and contribution of all Queens in making the club a unique one and ECG a better Company. For accelerated change and development in the company, let us focus on how to help speed up the process of delivering our products and services to our customers. Let us resolve to act and act to bring smiles to the faces of our customers since most of us are front liners.

I also wish to express my profound gratitude to members who have retired honorably from active service and to pay my respects to Queens who have passed on to glory.

Let us resolve to be creators of opportunities and mistresses of change and not victims of them; let the years ahead see one of us as the overall BEST WORKER and not runners up; let us continue to reaffirm our trust and confidence in promoting the UNITY AND LOVE and in making ECG a better place than we met it.

I say mo ne yo ,
Ayekoo.

Talk
According to the speaker, twenty years in the life of any person or body needs celebration and commendation for passing through teen age with its teething problems. That person has become adult and must behave responsibly to bring about the development of oneself and her home. Thus the theme for the day" Power Queens: 20 years of Women's development to enhance productivity in ECG.
She believed that the club was formed to unite all women of ECG to enable us reach what could not be achieved individually or otherwise and be a formidable group to sell and defend the Company.
Unity?!!?
The first question she asked was...do we still have this unity in the true sense amongst women? she continued that we should agree with her that a number of splinter groups have developed within Power Queens over the years due to little misunderstandings, petty jealousies and envy.
We can never empower ourselves let alone enhance the productivity of ECG if we would manage our own affairs this way.
Drawbacks
It is undeniable fact that women themselves are most effective catalysts for their empowerment and change for the better. Unfortunately, there are still certain behaviours that draws us back. They are acts that have caused us to remain in our shells and continue having the old mindset. it prevents us from progressing and widening our horizon.
As queens, we should be assretive and encourage ourselves to take up leadership roloe. Let's endeavour to put timidity behind us and move ahead rubbing shoulders with our male counterparts whatever the task may be.
We should take the bold step towards improving our lot by broadening our scope by attaining and updating our knowledge in everything that concerns us.
