ECG organised its 6th Best Worker Awards ceremony yesterday, 12th December, 2008. Nineteen (19) best workers were awarded with certificates and cash prizes by the company.
The Special Guest of Honour was Mr C S Tetteh, the Director of Finance and currently the Oversight Director for the Eastern Region.
This year, only three queens were part of the award winners. This is only about 16% of the total number of the award winners.
Folks...., luckily, I was part of the award winners..o...o...o."won't you clap for me?" clap! calp! clap!
Fellow Queens, please tighten your belts and work harder to help the company to move forward!!! Who knows...???? You may also grab an award.

We had our last year Christmas party with them and presented them with items worth thirteen thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢1300.00). The kids were very happy. Every child had a pack of fried rice with a quarter chicken, malts, toffees, biscuits, Christmas hat and many more. We really had a very good time with them.

Royal Thought for the Day
'To get something you never had, you have to do something you never did' When God takes something from your grasp, He's not punishing you, but merely opening your hands to receive something better. Concentrate on this sentence..... 'The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.' Something good will happen to you today.

Health Walk
The Queens embarked on health walk last Saturday. The day coincided with World Heart Day. We joined the Regional Hospital staff, medical students from Ghana Medical School, the Regional Minister and other important personalities to walk a distance of 10km through the principal streets of Koforidua.
HEALTH TALK
After the walk, we gathered at the Apenteng Hall for a Health Talk by Dr. Kusi Appiah from the Central Hospital in K'dua. He warned us about bad eating habits which are harmful to the heart.
We were advised to exercise at least 30minutes everyday to put the heart in 'good shape'. According to him, exercise prevents about 50 percent of diseases.
We gathered at a popular base, had fufu and ebunubunu with crabs, snails and mushrooms. We really had a good time with assorted drinks as well.
RED WINE
....Folks, I just remembered......... The doctor said red wine is good for the heart. Are you 'anti-alcohol????? Please think about this!!! Remember, he said just a little to 'grease' the heart is okey.

Mass Disconnection
As part of our 20th Anniversary Week celebration, we embarked on intensive revenue collection exercise for the Company.
On Tuesday, 23rd September, 2008, with five dockets in hand (i.e Regional Office), the first batch of queens went out with the disconnectors to disconnect many customers. The same thing happened in the following districts:-
Oda, Asamankese, Tafo, Akwatia, Kibi, Nkawkaw, Donkorkrom, Suhum, New Abirem, Asesewa,
Begoro and Mpraeso.
On Wednesday, we the second batch of queens also set off for the continuation of the mass disconnection. I personally disconnected 22 customers as Asokore.
On Thursday, with the assistance of the Regional Director, Mr Arthur Forson, we were given the information pick up and many leaflets or handouts on power conservation. We moved to the markets and had a chit chat with customers. Before we set off, we were given a detailed 'tuition' by Sam, (BPO) so we did not give them wrong 'apo'. Most of them complained about the frequent outages without warning, delay in the acquisition of a separate meter and wrong billing.
Customers living in compound houses appealed to us to make more meters available to them.
Item 13
Our RD blessed us with delicious Item 13 from the Chris Cafe Restaurant to welcome us back from the customer education. Isn't he a darling?????..... May he live long!!! Amen
Today, is the Africa Mama's Day. We have put on our nice African Wear to make a presentation to the Company. It is also supposed to be a staff durbar day so we invited Dr Addy to give us a health talk on the eye BUT a staff is being buried today and most of us are on our way to bid him farewell. With a Power Queens delegation of three, they have joined the RD and others to Akwatia for the funeral.
Tomorrow is keep fit and Health Walk through the Koforidua municipality from 6.00am. From keep fit to 'Ebunuebunu' with fufu buffet. Do you wanna join???Ha ha ha!!!!!

The National President's Special Message on the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of the Power Queens Club.
Mr. Chairman, distinguished guest and fellow Queens, twenty years ago, on the 24th of September, 1988 to be precise, the Power Queens Club, an association of female workers of the Electricity Company of Ghana was inaugurated. Since then a lot of water has passed under the bridge.
In a very modest and humble way we have chalked one success after the other. Admittedly, the challenges of the past years were enormous but not insurmountable. The fact that we are all at post today is a proof of God’s guidance and power and this should enable us confront the years ahead with hope and great expectation.
For the twenty years that the club has been in existence, it has been engaged in various programmes including Adult Education, sports, charity work, revenue mobilization and employee motivational drives.
Under adult education, we have organized programmes aimed at educating the public on the usefulness as well as the most economical and safest ways of utilizing electricity.
We have also organized seminars and training programmes for Queens at the training school and in the various regions.
In our contribution towards revenue collection, we inexhaustibly promoted “Campaign to enhance the image of ECG” which was launched by the then Managing Director, Mr. Kalitsi during the inauguration of the Western and Central regional branches of the club at Takoradi on the 26th of May 1989. This Campaign was aimed at motivating employees of ECG to aspire to greater heights. We must continue to deploy every conceivable and legitimate means to collect our revenues, including customer debts.
As mothers, we have always contributed our widow’s mite to the less fortunate in society by making donations. Again almost all the branches have adopted homes or wards in hospitals where we visit every year with gift items and cash donations.
Another feather in our cap was our excellence in sporting activities.
In conclusion, I highly commend the efforts and contribution of all Queens in making the club a unique one and ECG a better Company. For accelerated change and development in the company, let us focus on how to help speed up the process of delivering our products and services to our customers. Let us resolve to act and act to bring smiles to the faces of our customers since most of us are front liners.
I also wish to express my profound gratitude to members who have retired honorably from active service and to pay my respects to Queens who have passed on to glory.
Let us resolve to be creators of opportunities and mistresses of change and not victims of them; let the years ahead see one of us as the overall BEST WORKER and not runners up; let us continue to reaffirm our trust and confidence in promoting the UNITY AND LOVE and in making ECG a better place than we met it.
I say mo ne yo ,
Ayekoo.

The Power Queens Club of the Eastern Region launched the celebration of the 20th Anniversary yesterday at the ECG Conference Hall.

The theme for the anniversary is Power Queens: 20 years of women's development to enhance productivity in ECG.
Attendance:

Mr Jonathan Danzerl- DM for Asesewa,
Power Queens Rep from all the 13 districts
Three (3) representatives each from the Union, Welfare and SSA.
Ghana Police Service Ladies Club
Ghana Prisons Ladies Club
Retired Power Queens Women and
All Regional Queens were there except cashiers.
Talk
According to the speaker, twenty years in the life of any person or body needs celebration and commendation for passing through teen age with its teething problems. That person has become adult and must behave responsibly to bring about the development of oneself and her home. Thus the theme for the day" Power Queens: 20 years of Women's development to enhance productivity in ECG.
She believed that the club was formed to unite all women of ECG to enable us reach what could not be achieved individually or otherwise and be a formidable group to sell and defend the Company.
Unity?!!?
The first question she asked was...do we still have this unity in the true sense amongst women? she continued that we should agree with her that a number of splinter groups have developed within Power Queens over the years due to little misunderstandings, petty jealousies and envy.
We can never empower ourselves let alone enhance the productivity of ECG if we would manage our own affairs this way.
Drawbacks
It is undeniable fact that women themselves are most effective catalysts for their empowerment and change for the better. Unfortunately, there are still certain behaviours that draws us back. They are acts that have caused us to remain in our shells and continue having the old mindset. it prevents us from progressing and widening our horizon.
As queens, we should be assretive and encourage ourselves to take up leadership roloe. Let's endeavour to put timidity behind us and move ahead rubbing shoulders with our male counterparts whatever the task may be.
We should take the bold step towards improving our lot by broadening our scope by attaining and updating our knowledge in everything that concerns us.

Royal thought for the day
“If your raw data is flawed, you end up with a faulty conclusion. The same is true with how we see ourselves. If we lack self-confidence, maybe we’re working with flawed data.”
It’s easy to see the evidence of this flawed data: perpetually worried expressions, stressed-out kids, wasted gifts with too many charges for the clothes and beauty products that promised to make us look perfect. This can’t be the life God created us for.How can we know and enjoy the special gifts God has given us? What does it mean to be God’s beloved? How can we cultivate godly confidence?

New Regional Director for Eastern Region
The Power Queens Executive visited the new Regional Director for the Eastern Region, Mr K. Arthur Forson in his office this afternoon to officially introduce themselves to him and also to give him 'akwaaba' to the region.
He responded that he had earlier wanted to meet all the identifiable bodies in the main office but due to the budget settings he decided to postpone it. All the same he was grateful that we have taken the first step to meet him. He continued that, he believes in good human relationship because it is the foundation of every successful endeavour. According to him, without it, the availability of the best machinery and equipments cannot help the Company to achieve its goals and objectives.
He also believes in the informal way of communication. The flow is not going to be always downwards or upwards but both up and down.
The President capitalised on that and informed him about the up-coming 20th anniversary of the Power Queens Club which starts from the 22nd September to 28th September, 2008.
We also made him aware that the Queens will seriously embark on revenue mobilization and energy conservation so that he, the RD will know that 'we are here'... Ha ha ha ha!....OR.......... what do you think??????
Prayer for the Queens
I found this prayer really powerful. Read it and be blessed GOD Has Amazing Things in Store for You. The luggage on my head is God's present for you!!
"Stars do not struggle to shine; rivers do not struggle to flow, and you will never struggle to excel in life, because you deserve the best.Hold on to your dream and it shall be well with you... Amen."

Operation Stress Release
The newly elected National Executive of the Power Queens Club organized their first national excursion on the 12th July, 2008. All the Power Queens members in the ten (10) regions met at the Eastern Regional Office in Koforidua. It was a 'voyage' to the Akaa and the Boti Falls. The queens came in their numbers to enjoy themselves.
The atmosphere wasn't for the queens alone. Some queens could not leave their husbands and kiddies behind and therefore brought them along to share the excitement.
The managing Director, Mr Jude Adu-Amankwah was here to support the Queens. Could you believe he was in Power Queens t-shirt??? Yeh!! Our RD could not be left out and he was here with the RE to join in the fun.
The National President, Queen Miranda thanked the queens for their participation and said that the purpose of the excursion was to release stress from our hard working activities in the offices thus " Operation Stress Release". She pleaded with the queens to change their mode of operation and concentrate on the work to improve upon the image of ECG.
Tv3 was here to capture the event and we all moved in a convoy to the sites.
We enjoyed the trip and really viewed the handy works of the Almighty God.

Thoughts for the day!
"Without effort, you cannot be prosperous. Though the land be good, you cannot have an abundant crop without cultivation."
It is always better to take a first step in everything you wish for yourself and the end result will be the desires of your heart. Fellow queens, don't give up!!!! Go ahead! Go for what you dream for yourself!!!! don't look back!! Go go go go higher!!!

The Power of Women!!!!!!!?????
When everybody on earth was dead and waiting to enter Paradise, God appeared and said, 'I want the men to make two lines. One line for the men who were true heads of their household, and the other line for the men who were dominated by their women.
I want all the women to report to St. Peter.' Soon, the women were gone, and there were two lines of men. The line of the men who were dominated by their wives was 100 miles long, and in the line of men who truly were heads of their household, there was only one man.
God said, 'You men should be ashamed of yourselves, I created you to be the head of your household! You have been disobedient and have not fulfilled your purpose! Of all of you, only one obeyed. Learn from him.' God turned to the one man, 'How did you manage to be the only one in this line?'
The man replied, 'My wife told me to stand here.' ha! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha!

Trip to Boti and Akaa Falls
The National Power Queens Executive is organising a 'voyage' to the Akaa Falls and the Boti Falls next month, 12th July, 2008. "All work and no play, makes Queen Jacky a dull girl".
They (national executive) have realised that it is time time to have fun and release tension from the stress from hard work done. The places chosen are very serene and can bet that any queen with faith can feel the presence of the heavens. Yes! you can come over to feel it.
Akaa Falls
I went to the Akaa falls last December with some friends and I was filled with fear! The environment was just unbelievable!!!! The contours shows the awesomeness of our Almighty God!!! The rocks are like stones arranged by a Mighty Hand. It has its own unbrella rock and can contain about 200 people when it rains. Not even a drop of water can touch their feet.
The steps to the falls are made from stones and some of the rocks are hanging on top of the fall! guess what????? no hand is holding it up there and it is also not falling!!! its just hanging.
We saw a 'designer' rock!! Yeh! the rock already has designs on it. It is a tablet with square-like designs and some inscriptions like the 'ten commandment'!! ha ha ha ha ha !
Ten commandment indeed! just a few meters away from that tablet, there is a BIG Footprint on another stone. It is believed to be a footprint of those angels that fell from heaven and lived amongst men.
Some distance away is another fall which is yet to be discovered and made public. I had the chance to interview the care taker who told me that, that fall could be the second highest fall in West Africa.
Patrons at the Akaa falls can even stand on top of the fall and take pictures. Please don't forget to bring your cameras.
Boti Falls
Boti falls is very popular and guess most of you might have been there. Before getting to the falls, you will have to descend about 200 steps . Its very exciting getting 'down' to the fall. After watching the fall and going back is just like life!!! it's soo easy going down than coming up. Please make sure you take enough water along to help you climb the 200 steps. There is a similarity at both falls . They have umbrella rocks. Getting to the Umbrella Rock at Boti falls is very adventurous. It involves climbing and descending rocks. When you get to the middle of the trip to the umbrella rock, you may decide to go back!!! but guess what? going back is tougher than continuing to accomplish your 'mission' to see the rock.
Just some few metres from the umbrella rock, there is the Palm tree carrying additional three(3) palm trees.
Hmmmmmm, let me end here and continue when we get there.
Please come in your numbers and lets have funnnnnn!!!!!
